You May Be Missing A Great Mini-Series, But There’s Still Time To Do Some Good

We’ve been watching the 7-part HBO mini-series Generation Kill, based on the book and real story of Rolling Stone writer Evan Wright’s days embedded with the Marine 1st Recon Battalion during the initial days of the Iraq invasion. No matter on what side of the war you sit, the show is all at once compelling, informative and at times unnerving in it’s unflinching honesty of how the war has been conducted, along with the conduct of some of it’s personnel. What makes it even more interesting is that all of the Marines depicted are real and these are their stories. They agreed to allow their names and actions to be used and portrayed in both the book and the mini-series. Part 7 airs Sunday night, August 24th. If HBO On Demand is available through your cable provider you can get caught up on the first 6 parts. At the very least it is thought provoking.

Which brings us to the point of this post. HBO and partnering sponsors are sending needed items to Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. All you have to do is pick the item of your choice, give your name and email address and click. If you follow this link to the HBO Generation Kill website and click on “Troop Drive” by Sunday’s last episode, you can contribute to the cause.

And if you have any concerns, we did this and have not received any promotional emails from HBO or the maker of the item we chose to send. After watching this gripping mini-series, you realize that our troops need all of the little items they can get, especially some of the ones we take for granted everyday.
